KRISTINE NELSON,

ART DIRECTOR & PRINCIPAL

My Background

After 20+ years in a rewarding career working in various creative and design department settings, I made the exciting decision to leave my position as Senior Art Director for Zonderkidz, the children’s book division of Zondervan/HarperCollins Christian Publishing, to start StoryLook Design.

A good communicator and listener with an intuitive and genuinely collaborative approach sums up my work style. Creatively inspired by energetic people who are passionate about their projects, their books, their stories, their art—I love to discuss ideas and explore the possibilities in an easy, natural partnership.

I approach each assignment with great enthusiasm for elegant design aesthetics that communicate a clear, consistent concept, while being mindful of organically evolving creativity and new ideas during a project’s development. I take care in handling each stage with outstanding project management skills, with particular sensitivity to the individuals involved in the creative process. It is my nature to be very detail oriented. My work reflects attention to the concept of the design is in the details.  “The details are not details. They make the design.” –Charles Eames

I am also inspired by the rhythms of nature, the four seasons, and working in a peaceful, unhurried environment. A few years ago my husband and I sold our house in town and moved to our lakeside cottage just north of Grand Rapids where we enjoy the relaxed atmosphere by the water. We are empty-nesters with two great kids in their 20s and one spoiled cat. A sense of humor and my faith gets me through the good times and the challenges. I thank God every day for his gifts.
